With the school holidays now upon us, Discover Newmarket have produced the ultimate guide for families looking for things to see and do in the town and the surrounding area this summer.
The National Stud is the only commercial stud farm in the UK allowing individuals, small groups and large parties the chance to see behind the scenes of a working thoroughbred stud farm. The tours vary throughout the year, depending on the season and the activities happening on the stud when you visit. Most tours include a visit to the Stallion Unit and during the summer you can expect to see some mares and foals grazing and enjoying the sunshine.
Tours of The National Stud last approximately 90 minutes and are taken by coach and on foot. Family tickets are available throughout the school holidays (2 adults & 2 children aged 5-16 years). Under 5s free of charge.
This exclusive tour has been set up to celebrate 350 years of Horseracing in Newmarket. Discover Newmarket are welcoming all to join this two-hour walking tour, which runs before certain Summer Saturday fixtures and is a fantastic way to see the heritage of the town first hand.
Starting at 9am at the top of the high street by the Bill Tutte Memorial, the tour will take in sights of historical interest including Palace House, the Jockey Club Rooms, All Saints Church and Tattersalls. The tour will conclude at Nancys Tea Shop where walkers will enjoy Nancy’s delicious breakfast tier.
The Summer Discovery Club is a fantastic three-day activity where kids will get the chance to explore the arts, discover artists and their work, create an artwork, make a clay frame and work with the National Horseracing Museum’s conservator. The Club is open to children between the ages of 7 and 11 and takes place at the National Horseracing Museum between 16th and 18th August 2016.
It’s all fun and games at Newmarket Racecourses as the Adnams July Course host a series of Family Fun Days. The themed Saturdays include Horseplay this Saturday 23rd July with pony rides, mini horse jumps and Hobby horse flat racing; meet PAW Patrol’s Chase & Marshall on Saturday 30th July; The Gruffalo will be meeting and greeting the little ones on Saturday 13th August and on 26th August dress-up and join in the fun at the Super Hero Day.
