Founded in 1910, we are Cambridge's oldest and most renowned punting company. Since our foundation, we have been hiring out craft in Cambridge to both residents and visitors alike. If you would like to have a go at punting yourself, you can hire one of our craft for as short as an hour or as long as a day's opening hours. We have two directions available, either along the famous College Backs or upstream towards the beautiful village of Grantchester. If you would prefer to hire a different sort of craft, you can choose from a rowboat, Canadian canoe or kayak in the direction of Grantchester only.
We became the first punting company in Cambridge to offer a chauffeured tour of the College Backs. Our VAQAS-award-winning 45 minute College Backs Tour offers the ideal introduction to Cambridge’s long and eventful history. Discover how the city has evolved from medieval market town to world-class centre for education, whilst enjoying spectacular views from the river. No one showcases Cambridge like us: each season we select and train a group of guides who have a passion for history and a talent for sharing it with our customers.
From the gothic splendour of King’s College Chapel to the classical elegance of the Wren Library at Trinity, your guide will ensure that you don’t miss a thing. Our guides are at your service come rain or shine, so why not pay us a visit to experience Cambridge’s most popular tour? We run regular public tours and also accept private bookings.
Self Hire: Scudamore's Punting Company owns the largest fleet of punts in Cambridge, with some 150 craft available for self-hire along two routes - the College Backs and Grantchester. Also available for hire in the direction of Grantchester are Canadian canoes, kayaks and row-boats.
College Backs Tours: As well as self-hire options, Scudamore's offer a chauffeured punt tour service for the College Backs, which is available daily as a scheduled public tour, weather permitting. The College Backs tour lasts 45 minutes and provides the perfect introduction to Cambridge and its world renowned University. Relax in a comfortable 12 seater chauffeured punt as you pass Cambridge's most famous sights, including King's College Chapel, the Bridge of Sighs, the Mathematical Bridge and the Wren Library. Chauffeured punts come equipped with umbrellas and blankets as standard.
Ghost Tours: A public Punting and Walking Ghost Tour of Cambridge runs every Saturday. This lasts 90 minutes and combines an atmospheric punt tour of the College Backs with a guided walk through Cambridge's haunted lanes. Explore the 'darker' Cambridge of supernatural happenings and macabre tales. Ghost tour times may vary throughout the year, so check the website for details and to purchase tickets.
Bookings Service: Plan your visit to Cambridge in advance and take advantage of preferential rates on self-hire or chauffeured services. E-tickets can be purchased online and are valid for up to 6 months from the day of purchase.
Special Events: Scudamore's run exclusive punt tours and activities that are scheduled during celebratory calendar events, such as Valentines Day, Easter, May Week, Halloween and Christmas. Visit the website for full details and celebrate the holidays with Scudamore's.
Special Occasions: Whether you would like to celebrate your special occasion with a private punt tour, such as a Champagne Tour, or in self-hire punts with a Treasure Hunt, Scudamore's offer the most exclusive range of punting activities on the River Cam. Choose a carefully crafted package for your Birthday, Hen Party or even Wedding Reception entertainment. Packages must be pre-booked and are subject to availability and minimum charges.
Corporate Events: Scudamore's are an ideal choice for corporate clients planning a conference event or team building exercise in Cambridge. Scudamore's can organise punting services for up to 300 delegates. Contact the bookings office to discuss your requirements for daytime or evening punting entertainment.
