Bat Safari Punt Tours
Guided Punt Tour
This Spring and Summer we are running weekly bat safaris towards Grantchester Meadows in partnership with the Wildlife Trust. Scheduled each to run Friday night between May 16th and September 19th, these unique 90 minute tours depart shortly after dusk.
These safari tours are led by a wildlife expert and include use of specialist electronic bat detectors. Your knowledgeable guide will outline the notable characteristics and habitats of bats likely to be encountered on your trip and teach you how to use the detectors.
The hand-held detectors convert the bats biological sonar signals into audible frequencies. Different species of bats operate at different frequencies and the ear can be trained to recognise specific calls. With the help of your expert, you will be able identify exactly what bats are flying close to your punt.
Despite there being nearly 1,100 different species of bats, few people appreciate the vital ecological role that these fascinating creatures play in sustaining our world. Whether it is controlling crop pests, pollinating flowers or dispersing fruit seeds, bats are at the forefront of many important natural processes. We hope you will come away with a greater understanding of these important mammals.
Please note that 50% of all proceeds from ticket sales go to the Wildlife Trust. Call the Booking Office at 01223 359750 or visit our website www.scudamores.com to book your ticket.
