Moscow State Symphony Orchestra

The internationally acclaimed Moscow State Symphony Orchestra ends the 2012 /13 Cambridge Classical Concert Season in spectacular fashion.

Conductor Pavel Kogan
Soloist Ksenia Kogan, piano

Programme:
Rimsky-Korsakov Introduction & Three Miracles from Tsar Sultan
Tchaikovsky Piano Concerto No. 1
Tchaikovsky Symphony No. 6 in B Minor

The evening opens with Introduction and Three Miracles from Rimsky-Korsakov’s voluptuous and exotic Tsar Sultan Suite. One of the brightest pianists to emerge from Russia in recent years, soloist Ksenia Kogan performs Tchaikovsky’s great Piano Concerto No. 1 with verve and brilliance.

From its slow, ominous opening, to the turbulent pathos contained within, Tchaikovsky’s Symphony No. 6 in B Minor (‘Pathetique’) is the composer’s great swan song. The Moscow State Symphony Orchestra, under revered conductor Pavel Kogan, brings this great work powerfully to life.
