Official Guided Tours: Cambridge University Library Tour

Cambridge University Library started in 1416 as a small collection of valuable manuscripts kept locked in a chest as security against money loans. Today, things are a little different.

Through a combination of benefaction and its legal deposit status, the University Library has grown from a collection of a dozen volumes on a handful of subjects into a global institution housing around 8 million items, including some of the world’s most iconic scientific, literary and cultural treasures as well as a bizarre assembly of non-book curiosities.

Tour starts at the Visitor Information Centre before taking you across to and inside the University Library.
