In this workshop, you will:
- Have an introduction to the art of collage and decorative paper-making techniques.
- Use references gathered from your guided tour around David Parr’s house to create a composition to collage.
- Have a demonstration on how to make traditional decorative paste papers and an opportunity to try this technique for yourselves.
- Learn the techniques of collage and how colour and tonal balance create harmonious compositions.
- Create your own unique collage inspired by the David Parr House to take home, along with a selection of decorative papers for further experimentation.
About the artist:
‘I love folk art and the way it was used by ordinary people to make their humble surroundings more beautiful. I also appreciated the way these artists, out of necessity, used whatever materials were to hand. In these days of over consumerism, it seems that we should also be trying to use the materials that we already have around us. This is how I began collaging, repurposing old papers and prints into new artworks. I found myself immersed once more in the childhood art of ‘cutting and sticking’ and haven’t looked back since!’
Georgie Finn is an illustrator and collage artist whose work has always centred around narrative. She is often drawn to objects which in themselves tell a story and has recently completed an MA in children’s book illustration at Cambridge School of Art.
