In this workshop, you will:
- Discover the history of Sashiko and enjoy a short slideshow presentation showcasing the possibilities of this timeless craft.
- Learn the fundamental Sashiko stitching techniques from Helen Entwistle, using authentic indigo-dyed fabric and traditional Sashiko thread from Japan.
- Practise on a mini sampler before progressing to a larger pre-printed indigo sampler in the traditional hitomezashi (one-stitch Sashiko) design.
- Take home everything you need to continue your Sashiko project at your own pace.
The price of your workshop includes:
- A small piece of traditional indigo-dyed fabric to begin.
- A skein of 20m traditional white Sashiko thread.
- Two traditional Japanese Sashiko needles.
- A larger blue indigo sampler with a pre-printed design (the printing will wash away when completed).
- Tea, coffee, and biscuits to enjoy during the session.
The workshop will last approximately three hours. While you may not finish your sampler during the session, you will leave with the skills and materials needed to complete it at home. This workshop is suitable for all levels, even if you have never sewn before.
