Camsail – November meeting

Learn about life at Port Lockroy in Antarctica through a sailing lens. Its history as a whaling and then scientific base and the yachts and visitors that still pass through today.

  • 11th November 2026
  • 7:30 pm - 9:00 pm

CAMSAIL is a sailing club which meets monthly from October to March to enjoy a wide range of
talks by members and invited speakers, and an opportunity to socialise in a nautical
atmosphere (albeit in central Cambridge!). There is an annual subscription of £20 (first meeting free).

In the October meeting we will hear from Lucy Bruzzone about ‘Penguins, Yachts and a Post Office in Antarctica’

Lucy Bruzzone will share her experience as Port Lockroy Base Leader on the tiny Goudier Island. The island is home to the first permanent British scientific research base in Antarctica, a thousand penguins, a post office and a small team of four for the season. She will introduce some of the many yachts and ships which visited and highlight how travelling to Antarctica got her back into sailing.

We meet at 19.30 for a 19.45 talk start. The bar is open in advance of the talk for general socialising.
