4 years ago, the unthinkable has happened, but the tragedy lies in the fact that it hasn’t stopped happening – it has actually gotten worse. While it has become harder for Ukraine to hold the attention of the international public on its struggle, Russia has upscaled its daily aerial attacks on civilian population like never before and Trump has made everybody get tired of the words “peace deal” before we actually got even a step closer to a real peace. Ukraine is going through its coldest winter in decades, with temperatures plunging down to -22° C, meanwhile Russia has become even more efficient in its deliberate and systematic targeting of civilian energy infrastructure, leaving thousands of multi-apartment buildings without power, heating and sometimes water, with the most vicious attacks directed at the capital, Kyiv.

But still, Ukraine and its people are standing, 4 years of full-scale horror later.

On this solemn date both Ukrainians and their friends from Cambridgeshire will come together to remember, honour and be there for each other.

This year the focus of the annual commemoration event will be on the local community – people who don’t hold high positions, but hold a lot of love in their hearts. Love takes on many forms – people sing, cook, organize running clubs and above all – fundraise, trying to help their home and build a strong caring community in Cambridge however they can.
