Have-a go at Linocutting workshop suitable for those with no previous arts experience or for artists wishing to expand their practice and develop their skills.
Hello and welcome to Marmalade, a new arts and creative space in the mediaeval, market town of Soham, Ely, run by Oyster Community Press CIC. At marmalade we believe that sharing our passion for printmaking and passing on our skills to other people, will help ‘preserve’ this wonderful, traditional art form, and ‘spread’ the word about it far and wide. We offer printmaking workshops for adults, that will introduce you to the main printmaking techniques and are suitable for both experienced artists who want to explore printmaking, and newcomers who want to have a go at something different.
Half-day linocutting workshops at marmalade are relaxed, sociable and busy.
In this introductory session you will learn about the Reduction method of Linocutting and how to use our printmaking equipment so that you can create your own black and white and coloured linocut prints to take home. The session is suitable for beginners, people with no arts experience or those with rusty skills as we take you step-by-step through every process, to ensure you can work with confidence and at your own pace. We have reference books in the studio, but you are welcome to bring in your own images to work from as well. All materials are provided, along with tea, coffee and cakes, to keep your creativity going. Young people over 16 years old are very welcome if they bring an adult with them.
Please note, that although our inks are washable and we have aprons in the studio, we don’t recommend wearing your best clothes when you visit us, as printmaking can be a bit messy!
Here’s what Vince, one of our printmaking students has said about working with us
“I enjoyed this workshop immensely. Participants were made to feel very welcome and Al provided an excellent introduction to the Reduction method of Linocutting. The highlight of the Workshop was every participant was able to produce a unique and beautiful piece of work which will be cherished.”
