Our teaching style is hands-on and practical, so you will really get to grips with printmaking in this course, learning how to plan and execute a multi-colour image and working over five consecutive Saturday mornings, towards producing and printing a short edition of your own work.
Reduction Linocutting differs from Multi-block Linocutting, in that only one lino block is used to create a multi-colour print. Multi- colour images are therefore achieved in this process by removing areas of your design in sequential order on the same lino block and overprinting it multiple times with each colour you have decided to use. We specialise in teaching this challenging but exciting method of Linocutting and can guarantee you will get great results, as you will receive plenty of one-to-one tuition to help you develop your skills.
Here’s what one of our students Maggie says about the course
“The relaxed atmosphere was fun to learn in, and it was good to be creative with like-minded people. We were guided through the various stages with helpful suggestions to improve our work. A most enjoyable course that I would recommend to those thinking of trying it.”
Marmalade Print Studio has been open for a year and is now a go-to destination for printmaking in Cambridgeshire. Our studio offers a relaxed and sociable space to get creative in and learn all about the traditional artform of printmaking. All materials are provided, along with tea, coffee and light refreshments to keep you going while you work. Young people over 16 years old are very welcome if they bring an adult with them. Please note that although our inks are washable, and we have aprons in the studio, we don’t recommend wearing your best clothes when you visit us, as printmaking can be a bit messy!
Getting to Marmalade is Easy
Buses from Cambridge (the T5 service run by A2B Buses), Ely and Newmarket (the 112 operated by Stephensons Buses) stop either outside the studio, or a few minutes away. The rail station at Soham with trains from Ely is a ten-minute walk from us. If you are coming by car, there is free on street parking outside the studio on Pratt Street and two free local car parks a short walk away.
