This is a tradition that began in the 1800s, around the same time that pleasure punting began picking up steam in popularity. It was only in the 1960s, however, that the affairs became more than a way of celebrating the end of the year. Each college began using orchestras, bands and dinners to host their own ball to celebrate another year of academic achievement. These events then continue to expand into lavish and stunning affairs that can last all night long, finishing with many students punting sometimes too Grantchester.

If you would like to witness this great spectacle then book early, as tickets sell out in record time. Firework displays are now a big part of each night as each college seeks to out-do one another. This is one of our most popular times for punting, so grab your tickets today before it’s too late.

Book for your own private boat or enjoy the views with fellow curious spectators on a shared boat.

The city’s name is known around the world, but it wasn’t always called Cambridge. In the Middle Ages it was known as Grantabridge, meaning the bridge over the river Granta (one of the sources of the River Cam).
