Emma will share stories from her two-decade career, including her early encounters with the late Robert Tavener, whose studio she visited weekly to catalogue his work. Building a strong friendship with Tavener, she continued to care for his archive after his death in 2004 and began to research printmakers who had worked during the same or similar periods. Establishing contact with many, these friendships and collaborations laid the foundation for Emma Mason Gallery, founded in 2004, which specialises exclusively in original prints by British artists from the 1940s onwards.
Emma will explore the work of several gallery artists, including Tadek Beutlich, Robert Tavener, Peter Green, Walter Hoyle, Alistair Grant, Helena Markson, Jack Coutu, Garrick Palmer, and Trevor Kemp, and discuss her experiences of working with these collections.
You will have the opportunity to view Heatwave in Antarctic: Prints by Tadek Beutlich exhibition – a partnership between Emma and David Parr House. This is the first show dedicated to Beutlich’s printed works on paper. Featuring prints sourced from the artist’s own archive, the curated display features Beutlich’s work produced between 1962 and 1967, including several prints created in collaboration with the influential publisher Editions Alecto.
