Cambridge has long been known as a centre of innovation. With famous residents such as Isaac Newton, Alan Turing, Professor Stephen Hawking and of course Watson and Crick, so many discoveries can be attributed to our incredible city. But these great minds aren’t just something of the past – Cambridge remains at the cutting edge of industry and Barclays have created their Eagle Labs to help local businesses thrive. So how can businesses take advantage of Barclays to grow? We visited the two Eagle Labs in Cambridge to find out.

1. Rent space for your fledgling business at the Eagle Labs Incubator Hub

The Eagle Labs Incubator Hub is a co-working space with a difference based on Chesterton Road in Cambridge. The most obvious benefit of the Hub is the ability to pay for a part-time desk, a full-time desk or a private office in the inspiring city of Cambridge. The membership allows you access not only to this space, packed full of office must-haves such as great WiFi, printing and of course those all-important refreshments, but also the opportunity to tap into an innovative community. With mentorships from the Cambridge Judge Business School as well Barclays growth specialities, there are plenty of opportunities to develop and expand your business. In fact, Barclays are obviously proud of the number of “graduates” who have out-grown the Hub and moved on to their own office space after successfully taking their business to the next level as a result of their time at the Eagle Labs.

2. Gain first hand support from Barclays

Of course, financial support is an obvious benefit of working with a brand such as Barclays. The benefit of Barclays’ businesses expertise and connections is one of the best things about working from the Incubator Hub, as well as access to other benefits such as funding and loans. Barclays have drawn from their financial roots to develop this new and exciting arm of their company and businesses can take full advantage of their expertise as a result.

3. Attend networking events at the Eagle Labs Incubator Hub

You don’t have to rent space at the Incubator Hub to take advantage of the opportunities there. Barclays Eagle Labs run regular networking evenings everyone can attend, as well as a monthly early breakfast networking and talks from some of the residents of the Incubator. All of these events are free and open to anyone, so why not head down and see what you can learn.

4. Inspire your employees with a corporate away day at the Eagle Labs Maker Space

The Maker Space, based on Cherry Hinton Road, is offers something a little different to the Incubator Hub. Here is the place to get practical with a fun corporate away day, tailored to your business. The Visit Cambridge team loved our workshop, which was based around coding and robotics. First, we learnt to use Python to light up specific LEDs on a microchip, including our names and a smiley face at the press of a button. As the session progressed, we learnt how to increase our coding to finally create a microchip-controlled robot. The day finished with a chance to play table football with our newly programmed robots and it’s a fantastic way to engage and inspire your teams, regardless of their background. The away days are suitable for all levels of experience and knowledge, tailored towards your business goals and ambitions.

5. Turn your ideas into reality with cutting edge technology

The Maker Space also allows you to turn your ideas into reality, thanks to the technology available in this practical space. Three main pieces of state-of-the-art equipment are available to use; a laser cutter, a vinyl cutter and 3D printer as well as a tool room. Once you’ve received a free induction, anyone can pay per half hour to use the equipment. It’s a wonderful way to test and create new products and, with the support of the Maker Space team, hold your idea in your hands!

So what are you waiting for? Take a look at Barclays Eagle Labs now and take your business to the next level.
