A three day art summer studio ideal for children aged 6 – 11 years at Cambridge Artspace, CB4 3EF

Join us for an extraordinary summer adventure at our creative studio, led by artist duo, Lauren Peckham and Kelly Briggs. As Cambridge-based artists, we are driven by our shared vision of inspiring children to explore the world through fresh perspectives. Our carefully curated activities will not only foster artistic expression but also serve as gateways to understanding the wonders of science and nature.

Lauren and Kelly believe in the power of hands-on experiences to foster curiosity and imagination in children. Through the three day summer studio, they aim to spark a sense of wonder and awe in the natural world, encouraging children to observe and appreciate the beauty and intricacies of their surroundings.

What will we be doing?

Painting with natural materials will be a prominent activity in the studio. Children will have the opportunity to experiment with using leaves, flowers, and other natural objects as brushes or paint applicators. This will not only introduce them to different artistic techniques but also deepen their connection to nature.
The art and science experiments will be a unique blend of creativity and education. Children will be encouraged to explore scientific concepts through art, such as creating fizzing paint using baking soda and vinegar or making color-changing solutions using natural and household materials. These experiments will not only engage their artistic skills but also foster a love for scientific exploration.

At the end of the three days, there will be an exhibition where the children can showcase their artwork to their families and the local community, celebrating their accomplishments and the creative journey they have embarked on.

Our art and science summer studio will be a place where children can explore, create, and grow. By combining art, science, and nature, they aim to inspire a lifelong passion for creativity and a deep appreciation for the world around them.

About the artists:

Lauren trained at Camberwell College of Arts in London. She now resides in Cambridge with her husband and three young children. Their boundless creativity and playful nature serve as a constant source of inspiration, often leaving her in awe. She eagerly anticipates the opportunity to enrich the lives of other young people, sharing the joy of observing the world around them and engaging in fun experiments with a wide range of exciting materials.

Kelly trained at Norwich University of the arts and recently completed a Masters in Art and Science at Central Saint Martins. Currently her art practice explores how we’re connected with the natural world both on micro levels though a microscope as macro looking out to space. Kelly runs art events and workshops in Cambridge and London for children and adults.
