About us

Cambridge Distillery was founded in 2012 by Master Distiller William Lowe and his wife and business partner, Lucy. Walking through the meadows around Cambridge, they set out to make gins that capture the taste of the English seasons, using botanicals grown in and around their home.

Their founding principle is that no two botanicals are identical, so each should be treated individually. To do this, they developed a novo-dimensional distillation matrix, in which temperature, timing and pressure are three of nine variables tailored to each botanical. It allows the freshest and most delicate ingredients to be distilled with a precision far beyond traditional methods.

What began in their living room as the smallest distillery in the United Kingdom has grown into the largest dedicated vacuum gin distillery in the world. Every gin Cambridge Distillery has released has won international awards, and it has been named the world’s most innovative distillery three consecutive times.

Our home in Grantchester

The distillery sits on Grantchester High Street, yards from the River Cam as it winds through Grantchester Meadows towards Cambridge. The meadows are more than a backdrop. They are our botanical store, and the changing seasons shape everything we make.

The Distillery Tasting Tour

Hosted by the team from our Cambridge Gin Laboratory, the Distillery Tasting Tour brings you to the home of Cambridge Distillery for a two-hour experience.

A welcome G&T to set the scene
A guided walk through Grantchester Meadows, weather permitting
An introduction to our philosophy and pioneering distillation techniques, led by one of our experts
An exploration of botanicals: their origins, their character and the art of tasting
Creating your own bespoke gin recipe, tailored entirely to your palate
A G&T made with the gin you created

Gift vouchers are available and can be redeemed at either the distillery or the Gin Lab.

Private events

The distillery can host private groups of up to 20, with sessions tailored from one to three hours. It is a memorable setting for birthdays, hen and stag parties, or simply a day out with friends.

In the centre of Cambridge, at 10 Green Street, our Cambridge Gin Laboratory is an interactive space dedicated to the art and science of gin appreciation. Classes run every day, from blending your own gin to cocktail making and the history of gin.
