Make it with Marmalade!
Hello and welcome to Marmalade, an arts and creative space in the medieval town of Soham, Ely, run by Oyster Community Press CIC, a not-for-profit, community arts organisation which teaches printmaking.
Prior to moving to Soham to be closer to our family, we delivered printmaking courses and workshops for the public and other artists for ten years from our studio in Tower Street, Ipswich.
We also created Ipswich PrintWeek, an annual festival of printmaking that showcased the work of professional printmakers in Suffolk and supported young printmakers to become professional artists. You can find out more about us and Oyster Community Press CIC here.
At Marmalade we believe that sharing our passion for printmaking and passing on our printmaking skills to other people, will help ‘preserve’ this wonderful, traditional artform. Our printmaking workshops allow you to explore all the main printmaking techniques and are delivered in the creative environment of our lovely garden studio at 36 Pratt Street, Soham, Ely. They are relaxed, sociable and suitable for both experienced artists who want to experiment with printmaking, and newcomers who just want to have a go at something different.
Here’s what one of our students, Deborah has said about working with us
“I just wanted to say a huge thank you for such a brilliant, extensive and well organised course. I thoroughly enjoyed the day and learned so much. I was rather nervous, but you were both supportive and encouraging, and, after such a long break from doing artwork, it meant a great deal to me.”
Our full programme for Spring/Summer 2026 can be seen at https://www.marmaladeprintstudio.co.uk/whatson
But here is a quick overview of what we offer.
Half-day workshops provide an insight into a technique and let you try your hand at something, so that you can decide on which discipline you might like to explore further.
One day workshops and courses allow you to explore and experiment with printmaking techniques in greater depth and to develop your own projects.
Class sizes are kept small so that you get plenty of time for one-to-one tuition.
Prices include all basic materials, use of our equipment, tea, coffee and homemade cake, so you don’t need to bring anything with you apart from your enthusiasm.
Arty Partys
Apart from workshops we can help you celebrate special occasions or arrange some family time with a difference, as we provide Arty Partys for up to 6 people who want to take time out to be together. Find out more here.
We are family friendly but as we use sharp tools, young people must be over 16 years and bring an adult with them please. Some classes are for over 18’s only.
You can book by emailing oysterpress.cic@gmail.com
Parking/public transport
We have good free on street parking and free car parks nearby and if you are coming by public transport from Cambridge the T5 bus from Drummer Street stops in Soham High Street, a five minute walk from the studio. Buses from Ely and Newmarket also stop outside the studio.
