Cards For Good Causes Charity Christmas Shop Returns!

5th October- 19th December 2018 at the Cambridge Visitor Information Centre

Cards for Good Causes – which sells charity cards across the UK every year opens its Cambridge shop on 5th October.

The shop staffed by local volunteers is open Monday to Saturday from 10:00 to 16:45 and will trade until 19th December at Cambridge Visitor Information Centre, located in the Guildhall building on Peas Hill – just around the corner from the Cambridge Market.

Shoppers can buy cards from more than 30 charities including: East Anglian Air Ambulance, Shelter and PDSA giving customers a varied choice of designs and the ability to help the charity of their choice.

Cambridge charity Christmas card shop is one of a national network of around 300 temporary shops.

Look out for the red triangular Santa sign!!  

Cards for Good Causes is the UK’s largest multi-charity Christmas card organisation, raising money for more than 320 charities from a nationwide network of around 300 temporary shops.

The inspiration for the organisation came in 1959 when James ‘Jim’ Jackson, Secretary of the British Diabetic Association gathered a group of medical charities together to discuss the coordination of publicity for selling charity cards at Christmas. They formed The 1959 Group of Charities, a registered charity and multi-charity membership organisation, and in 1964 began selling cards from empty shops in town centres.

Cards for Good Causes Limited (CFGC) pays the participating charities (or their trading subsidiaries) at least 70p in every pound from their card sales, less the VAT payable on the amount retained by CFGC.  The retained amount covers CFGC’s costs of running the temporary charity Christmas card shops.  In addition to these costs, the participants have to pay for the production and distribution of their cards.

In 1988 Cards for Good Causes Limited was established as the trading company of The 1959 Group of Charities.
