Cambridge Chauffeur Punts
Cambridge Chauffeur Punts was founded in 1993. Since then we have built up to a fleet of 27 Punts some of which are double punts, designed for taking groups such as school parties and conference groups of up to 100 people. Customers can choose from taking a tour with a chauffeur guide or punting themselves. We operate on upper river, towards Granchester and along the middle river which passes the famous college Backs.

Chauffeur PuntsA standard return tour takes you the length of the Backs between Silver St and Quayside lasting approximately 45 minutes. The tour includes Queens' College and the Mathematical bridge, Kings College, Claire College, Trinity Hall, Trinity College, St. Johns College, the bridge of Sighs, and Magdelene College.
Blankets and umbrellas are provided as standard. Life jackets are available on request.
Longer tours can be arranged up to half a day, on any part of the river.
Our chauffeurs are expert punters, who can present you with the historical facts and stories of the colleges, University and the student life. Have you heard that Sir Isaac Newton designed the Mathematical Bridge, without nuts or bolts? Come and discover the truth behind it.

Thai Meal on the punts

We work very closely with a well established Thai restaurant called Salathong. We will serve you a two-course Thai meal while we punt you along the famous 'Backs'. The dishes are at a reasonable price and all food is freshly cooked. From experience we know you will be the envy of all other punters!

We currently offer a choice of 2 Banquet menus and vegetarian options are available on request, and also the option of strawberries and champagne.

About Cambridge
The Cam rises in Ashwell in Hertfordshire, progressing northwards to Cambridge. It then flows into the flat area of the Fens and onwards to Ely and King's Lynn. There it joins the sea at the Wash in Norfolk. Cambridge's humble beginnings relied strongly on this river connection when King's Lynn used to be one of busiest sea ports in England. Goods would travel inland to Cambridge which slowly grew as an inland port.
Some of the first colleges to be founded were built right on the banks of the river. On the riverside the colleges would benefit from this major trade route into the town of Cambridge. The result today is the "Backs", a one mile stretch of river that supports some of finest examples of architecture in England. Altogether there are 8 colleges and 9 bridges. These include Queens' College with the Mathematical Bridge, King's College with its famous chapel, and the Bridge Of Sighs at St. John's college. Cambridge is world famous as the home of one of the two oldest English universities, but the city has a long and eventful history of its own. The Roman may be the first to bridge the River Cam by AD 43. However in 875 the Anglo-Saxon Chronicle called it Grantabrycge - one of the earliest known uses of the word 'bridge' in the English Language, suggesting that the town was famous for its bridge.
Peterhouse was the first college, founded in 1284. Today there are 35 colleges that make up the university.
