Cambridge University Botanic Garden Apple Day 2017

Pip pip hooray, it's Apple Day! A family favourite celebration of all things apple - discover the diversity of apples available at the Botanic Garden’s Apple Day on Sunday 22 October 2017, 10am-4pm

Highlights including....

* Apple tasting: over 2 dozen delicious, locally-grown unusual and heritage varieties from the region to try and buy
* Apple identification: Cambridgeshire has lost the great majority of its orchards in the last 50 years, but heritage varieties may be surviving in private gardens, often carved out from the last remnants of ancient orchards and it may well be that someone will bring a lost heritage variety to light…the apple aficionados at the East of England Apples and Orchards Project will be on hand to identify apples– visitors should bring along two to three apples from each mystery tree, preferably with a leaf and stalk attached, to help with accurate identification
* Apple cultivation: expert advice on what to grow, how to plant and prune for a bumper crop

* Family activities: get crafty with a variety of apple activities in the Schools' Garden for the young and young-at-heart
* Apple edibles: the Garden's Main Lawn Marquee will be bursting with locally produced, delicious edibles including hedgerow cordials, fruit-flavoured spirits, hand-pressed juices and ciders, specialty teas, chocolates & artisan cheeses for sale

Other entertainment:

* free Garden seasonal highlight tours
* live music
* pop-up food trucks to keep you refuelled
* other local craft stalls and sales
