Cambridge University Botanic Garden Festival of Plants 2019

The Garden showcases and shares the fascinating world of plant science for its annual Festival of Plants.

The Botanic Garden is not just about the beauty of plants; it is an important focus for plant science research, not only in Cambridge but also around the world. Researchers investigate how plants work, how they evolved, how they are related to each other and how they can be used to address global problems as challenging as food security and climate change.

Come and visit to find out more about these exciting projects at our Festival of Plants - a fun-filled, fact-finding, family day out where the Garden becomes a hive of activity, including:

- a range of bitesize talks and free expert-led tours timetabled to run throughout the day

- pop up science marquee, where groups from the University’s Department of Plant Sciences, Sainsbury Laboratory, NIAB and others demonstrate and explain the wonders of plants with hands-on experiments and interactive games, designed to highlight how world-leading research can help address global challenges

- "Ask-the-Gardener": advice on any and all areas of gardening from our expert Horticulture staff

- Schools' garden fete: drop-in, hands-on children's activities running throughout the day

- Cambridge Orchid Society Annual Show: experts on hand with growing hints and tips for these ever popular plants

- Plant fair: plant stalls from specialist and local nurseries

- live music on the lawn

- pop-up food and drink stalls

Normal Garden admission applies; avoid the queues and buy your tickets in advance from either ticket office.
