Festive Family Fun

Cambridge and Beyond is the perfect destination for families at any time of the year but at Christmas time, its extra special. Where else will you find Santa spreading the festive cheer with a special arrival by steam train or even powering down the river by speed boat?

Whilst the elves and fairies are busy making sure that everything is in place for a perfect Christmas, we are delighted to announce that Father Christmas shall be making an appearance throughout Cambridge and Beyond. Check out Santa's Grottos page to find where he'll be visiting.

The Big Switch On

To Light Up Christmas For Vulnerable Children - The annual Christmas Lights Switch-On event will be delivering a poignant message this year in support of the NSPCC’s ‘Light Up Christmas For Children’ campaign.

Brewin Dolphin Cambridge Jazz Festival

Presenting live music, workshops, films, tributes and speakers in over 25 venues around this stunning and historic city.  This year the Jazz festival will celebrate with 15 days of early and modern jazz, jazz fusion, soul, R&B, Afrobeat, funk, hip hop, rock, blues, electronica, folk, gypsy, big band, choir, a capella, poetry and Lindy Hoppers. The NewGenJazz which is an all-day event at the Cambridge Corn Exchange will feature 11 bands, some of the finest young, award winning and boundary pushing UK jazz artists.  There will also be jazz under a 70ft Whale (Museum of Zoology), jazz for toddlers and young kids - There should be something here for everyone.

Cambridge Music Festival

Cambridge Music Festival, the annual boutique classical festival, brings an explosion of sound to the city this November. Festival highlights include virtuoso violinist and Festival favourite Joshua Bell who returns after a sell-out concert in 2015; the first Black, Asian & Minority Ethnic orchestra performing in King’s Chapel; and the harpsichord as you have never heard it before (guaranteed!) played by superstar of the keyboard, Mahan Esfahani.

Ely Christmas Gift & Food Fair

Widely acknowledged as one of the finest medieval buildings in Europe, Ely Cathedral is the perfect place to visit during the festive season. There is plenty to see and experience including Christmas services, concerts and special events, including the Christmas Gift & Food Fair. Warning – pre-booking is essential!

The North Pole Christmas Festival

The North Pole Cambridge Christmas Festival is back and back in style, giving you the opportunity to get into the spirit of Christmas throughout the festive season. Featuring an icy extravaganza in the heart of the city centre, this annual festival is centred around a stunning 600m open-air ice rink, great for a fun filled day out with family & friends. Experience interactive side stalls and let us bring out the big kid in you with our traditional fair. 

Snowman Festival Day & Christmas Gift Fair

Once again this popular day of FREE activities for children is taking place. This year, thanks to the support of ACE, Fest and the Town Team, there will also be something for the adults with stalls offering a fabulous
range of Christmas Gifts and refreshment.  Look out for the fun game for children in our Festival Igloo. On top of this there will be fabulous Christmas music and carol singing with the Somersham Town Band, a great way to get into the Christmas spirit. Enjoy the day in the Corn Exchange before watching the Christmas Lights Switch-on after dark. Yet another event for all the family to enjoy.

Stamford Christmas Festival

The popular traditional Stamford Christmas Festival will be returning to the heart of Stamford. There will be traditional craft stalls offering a wide range of popular and stylish gifts with treats and delights to excite and tantalize. The town has good FREE car parking facilities on Sundays with the town centre easily accessible. To add to the festive spirit there will be entertainment galore throughout the day including festive Punch and Judy shows, School Choirs, Santa’s Grotto, real reindeers, a children’s Fun Fair and, of course, culminating with the Christmas lights switch-on!

Christmas at Burwash Manor

Burwash Manor, the shopping courtyards just outside Cambridge, hosts an evening of festive fun on Friday 1st December 2017 between 5 and 9pm.  The shops are all open late with a discount of 10%, there will be live music, street food stalls, a Christmas Food Market, the opportunity to meet Father Christmas, and buy your Christmas tree.

Mill Road Winter Fair

It’s time for the Mill Road Winter Fair – the fair has come a long way from the original fair in 2005 when only 40 venues participated and cars whizzed up and down Mill Road. Now the road is closed to vehicles annually from East Road to Coleridge Road and opened to parades, eating and all kinds of activities taking place on the vibrant street.

Christmas Charity Carol Concert

Head over to Great St Mary's Church for their beautiful Christmas carol service by candle-light on Monday 11th December at 7pm - with music and readings as as we celebrate the wonder and joy of Christmas.

Festival of Nine Lessons and Carols

A Festival of Nine Lessons and Carols is the Christmas Eve service held in King's College Chapel. The Festival was introduced in 1918 to bring a more imaginative approach to worship. It was first broadcast in 1928 and is now broadcast to millions of people around the world.
