il pomo d’oro & Franco Fagioli

“Handel wrote for the voice in a way that allows the performer to really shine!” says Franco Fagioli – and when this phenomenal Argentinean countertenor sings Handel’s music, it doesn’t just shine, it dazzles. Backed by the flamboyant il pomo d’oro, this is a night of singing at its wildest and most wonderful, a real banquet of showpieces by Handel and his outrageous Italian rival Vinci.

Pre-Concert Talk: Reinventing the Past with Nicholas Kenyon 2pm-2.40pm
Nicholas Kenyon has been a leading figure of the world of early music as critic, writer and broadcaster, most recently as presenter of the BBC Radio 3 series The Future of the Past.

In this pre-concert talk, he will reflect on the huge changes that the revival of early music has brought to our concert and listening experience, and the continuing issues around questions of historical accuracy and “authentic” performance practice. This informal talk will provide a lively perspective and background to the period-instrument concert that follows.

The pre-concert talk is free to attend for ticket holders.
