Cam Sight, who are launching the unique dining experience in collaboration with Cambscuisine, want to give sighted people the opportunity to appreciate what it’s like to be completely blind, whilst raising much needed funds to support those people affected by sight loss.

Imagine eating your dinner and not being able to see the food on your plate. How would it feel to experience the meal through taste and touch only? How would it feel going into a new restaurant and navigating around without any sight? We are asking people in the community to really put themselves in the shoes of others for this year’s World Sight Day and enjoy their evening meal in a restaurant full of people completely blind-folded.

If you have limited vision, in every new place you go to you have to assess the space and navigate around the furniture, whilst making sure you can move safely between people and objects. This event is really designed to provide an insight into the sight loss community and understand the challenges visually impaired people face with daily tasks, which most of us take for granted.

The award-winning business, which has 7 Pub and Restaurants, is hosting the charity event in two locations, The Millworks and The Three Horseshoes.

Bookings will be taken online by visiting the pub’s individual websites. Go to ‘Book a Table’ and select ‘Dine in the Dark’ 12 October to reserve your space.

Cam Sight’s services are open to all people with low vision or blindness in and around Cambridgeshire. The charity can offer practical help with welfare benefits, assistive technology and low vision equipment, and offer emotional support through counselling services. They also run a variety of activities and monthly peer support groups throughout Cambridgeshire.

In 1958, a group of engineering students managed to hoist an Austin Seven car onto the roof of Senate House, with the help of some clever calculations. It took the university a week to remove it – and will surely go down in history as one of the boldest student pranks ever!
