The recital takes place in the newly refurbished 200-seater chamber hall – Pembroke Auditorium – complete with new Steinway piano.
One of the greatest singers of our time, Sir Simon Keenlyside, opens the new season at Pembroke with a pinnacle of western art, Schubert’s Winterreise. He is joined by Pembroke Musician in Residence, Joseph Middleton, described in the American Record Guide as “The best collaborative pianist of his generation.”
“His German is excellent, his diction is pristine, his eye for detail acute. Armed with his dark, handsome baritone, he unveiled multiple layers of meaning in every song, every stanza and, occasionally, in a single line. Perhaps most strikingly of all, he is unafraid of silence.” The Financial Times on Keenlyside’s performance of Winterreise at Wigmore Hall.
