The Sorcerer tells the story of what happens when a young man, Alexis, (himself betrothed to Aline), decides that love should be able to overcome all Victorian-era class and rank distinctions.  To that end, he engages John Wellington Wells, from a distinguished firm of Sorcerers, to brew a love potion that – once served in the guise of a pot of tea during the wedding feast – will cause the villagers to fall in love with the next person they see. The resultant comic mis-matching of couples creates havoc; and it is only by a dramatic intervention that the spell may be broken and order restored.

A rare chance to see the first Savoy opera to showcase all the range of characters and songs that were to become Gilbert and Sullivan’s hallmark.

We look forward to seeing you there !

Forming part of St John’s College, The Bridge of Sighs is one of Cambridge’s most famous landmarks. It shares little with its Venetian namesake, but this Gothic Revival style structure is a beauty in its own right, best admired by punt.
