‘Village Wooing’

George Bernard Shaw's 'Village Wooing', a comedietta for two voices, is presented by SHAW2020 in this award winning production.

  • 22nd July 2022 - 24th July 2022
  • 8:00 pm - 3:00 pm

SHAW2020’s production, directed Jonas Cemm, won a ‘Standing Ovation’ award at the 2021 London Pub Theatre Awards and was a finalist for an OffFest award at 2022  Offies. Village Wooing is sponsored by The Shaw Society and stars Cambridge local Joe Sargent as ‘A’ and Maryann O’Brien as ‘Z’.

This hour-long play is a charming two-hander in which the characters, simply named ‘A’ and ‘Z’, play a relentless game of cat and mouse across land and sea. A distinguished author and a small-time shopkeeper meet in the luxurious surroundings of a round-the-world cruise. She has the recipe for a holiday romance, but he is writing to a deadline. Separated by sex, class and wealth, there could hardly be two more unlikely travelling companions. Bernard Shaw’s charming tale pits these two lively minds against each other with very unexpected results. A gentle and revealing country comedy.

Village Wooing is on at The Town & Gown Pub Theatre in Cambridge from 22nd July – 24th July, then visits the historic Commemoration Hall in Huntingdon on 28th and 29th July before continuing the tour in Birmingham and London. Visit shawsociety.org.uk for details.
