An evening with Umm Kulthum
Join us for a special tribute concert celebrating 50 years since the legendary Um Kulthum left us, with live performances of her iconic song An evening with Um Kulthum Come join us for a special evening of "Tarab" celebrating the legendary Egyptian singer, Umm Kulthum, 50 years after her passing. The concert will take place at Pembroke College Auditorium, where Cambridge Takht will pay homage to the iconic singer along amazing qanun player, Hend Al Zouari. The Infinite Shing Heavens
With music inspired by the stars The Infinite Shining Heavens the concert will be performed in the beautiful surroundings of Clough Hall by celebrated Pianist Anna Tilbrook, soprano Claire Booth and soprano Katherine Gregory (NC 2020) accompanied by George Herbert (piano). This event is part of our weekend celebrating the life and career of astrophysicist Cecilia Payne-Gaposchkin, we will be hosting a concert of music inspired by her remarkable life. Cecilia was a talented musician. Before coming to Newnham she attended St Paul's School in London and whilst there was taught music by Gustav Holst at the time whilst he was composing The Planets (1914-17). An arrangement of Mercury from The Planets for piano will be included in the evening concert.
