English Touring Opera: Il Viaggio a Reims

English Touring Opera returns to Cambridge Arts Theatre with three great operas encompassing love and war, comedy and epic tragedy. In a provincial hotel, guests from all over Europe are stranded on their way to a great coronation. Intrigue, politics, romance and lost luggage all play their part in Rossini’s last Italian opera, Il viaggio a Reims. Each opera is performed on period instruments in partnership with the much-praised Old Street Band.

English Touring Opera: Lucrezia Borgia

Lucrezia Borgia is a tragedy of great pathos. Donizetti created in Lucrezia one of his greatest roles – known as one of history’s most famous poisoners, she is a cunning strategist and a loving mother at the same time, a complex woman in a dangerous situation. Each opera is performed on period instruments in partnership with the much-praised Old Street Band.

Bringing the river to life in raucous style each June, ‘The Bumps’ are a chaotic series of rowing races. In this Cambridge tradition, which dates back to the early 19th Century, boats set out in single file and must catch and touch, or ‘bump’, the boat ahead without being caught by the rowers on their tail.
