Find out moreDiscover the world of traditional Japanese woodblock printing at the University of Cambridge with block cutter Saeko Nagai and printer Nobuto Ogawa (Sekioka Woodblock Studio, Tokyo). After a brief introduction to the long history of woodblock printing in Japan by Prof Laura Moretti, you will observe how a woodblock is cut and experience yourself how to print from it. You will also have an opportunity to ask questions to the two artists (translation provided). Woodblock-printed original materials from early modern Japan will also be on display. This workshop runs in conjunction with the Mitsubishi Corporation Summer School in Early Modern Palaeography (Eleventh Edition), organized by the Faculty of Asian and Middle Eastern Studies, at the University of Cambridge.
